I have watched past campaign finance reform efforts with great interest. It appears that the only way to effectively address the issue will be through a constitutional amendment. Until we, as a country, develop enough maturity and elect enough honest brokers in the legislative progress, there is only one counterweight against the negative influences that dominate the political process – giving your own time and/or money.

Too many incumbents are scared of being wrong and not being reelected. However, not enough of them are scared of the consequences of failure to do their jobs. Some of the special interest groups that support candidates don't care about the country's well being and seek to benefit themselves at your expense. The only way to combat them is for you to give financial support to whichever candidate you support, even if it is not me. In the memo line of your donations, write “represent me”. Remind your candidates and elected officials that they are elected to represent your interests, not their own or a select group of supporters or large contributors.
